About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate, confident Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) to join our Animal Ambulance Service team on a flexible bank basis.
This is a unique and rewarding role providing emergency response, patient transport, and urgent field support to animals in need. You will work both independently and alongside animal care assistants, drivers, attending welfare calls, assisting injured animals, and ensuring safe transportation to veterinary facilities.
No two shifts are the same — you may be attending road traffic accidents, collecting urgent referrals, supporting euthanasia cases, or assisting members of the public in distressing situations.
Key Responsibilities

Provide emergency triage and nursing care in the field

Safely handle and transport a variety of animals (small animals & occasionally wildlife)

Assist veterinary surgeons during urgent cases

Monitor patients during transport

Communicate compassionately with members of the public

Maintain ambulance equipment and medical supplies

Complete accurate clinical and welfare records
-
Work safely as a lone responder when required
Requirements
Essential
-
Registered Veterinary Nurse (RCVS registered)

Full UK driving licence
-
Confident animal handling skills
-
Ability to remain calm under pressure

Excellent communication and empathy skills

Willingness to work evenings, weekends and on call shifts as we operate 24/7

Physically fit and capable of lifting/handling animals
Desirable

Emergency & Critical Care experience

Previous out-of-hours or charity work

Experience driving vans or larger vehicles

Wildlife handling experience

RECOVER CPR training
